Season

In 2002 summer, Inter's market was shaken from the gossip about Ronaldo who had just win World Cup.^[1] His querelle with Cúper brought to departure, toward Real Madrid.^[2] The forward place was taken by Hernán Crespo, who played last years for Lazio.^[3] Crespo's partner was Vieri, whose goals gave Inter a notable amount of points.^[4]^[5] During autumnal time, the side retained top position for several games and passed the first Champions League group.^[6]

In January, the 4–1 loss against Perugia let Milan get the mid-season title.^[7] His dominance expired out after an only week, as they were defeated and Inter (who stunned Empoli by 3–0^[8]) returned first. Some weeks later, the side was reached by Juventus that also won head-to-head clash.^[9] As spring came, Inter took his pressure off: European distraction and a lot of points wasted stuck the team at second place.^[10] Champions League outcome was good too, as they played semi-finals for first time in last 22 years.^[11]
