Caffeine dehydrogenase

Caffeine dehydrogenase (EC 1.17.5.2) is an enzyme with systematic name caffeine:ubiquinone oxidoreductase.^[1] This enzyme catalyses the following chemical reaction

caffeine + ubiquinone (Q₀ ox) + H₂O

\rightleftharpoons

1,3,7-trimethylurate + ubiquinol (Q₀ red)

Caffeine dehydrogenase is isolated from the soil bacterium Pseudomonas sp. CBB1.
