Società Sportiva Lazio had one of its better seasons historically, although that was not enough for coach Zdeněk Zeman, who was let go following a dry spell mid-season, when club president Dino Zoff replaced him temporarily. A strong finish to the season ensured that Lazio took fourth place in the league, qualiyfing for the UEFA Cup in the process.
